Will leverage skills, passion to serve youth in Lorain County

AVON, OHIO (August 2022) – Shurtape Technologies, LLC, an industry-leading manufacturer and marketer of pressure-sensitive tapes and consumer home and office products, congratulates Scott Sommers, Vice President of the Company’s Insights and Innovation group, in his newly appointed position as Chair of the Board of Directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lorain County (BBBSLC).

For the past 28 years, BBBSLC has been helping children and youth facing adversity achieve measurable outcomes leading to lifelong success. As an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, BBBSLC has developed a highly effective approach to mentoring, leading to its recognition as an evidence-based program. BBBSLC achieves this by working with community partners and engaging with families, volunteers and donors to maintain, adapt and expand their programs and activities that make meaningful, monitored one-on-one matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children and youth (“Littles”), ages 6 through 19 in communities across Lorain County.

“We are thrilled to have the benefit of a caring, seasoned, passionate, well-established industry leader helping to advance the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lorain County,” says Holly Brinda, President and CEO of BBBSLC. “Scott Sommers is stepping up as Chairperson at a critical time for the organization, as we respond to exponential need with unprecedented growth in our mentoring and support programs. Scott’s willingness and ability to help bring the necessary human and financial resources to BBBSLC will make a positive difference for the children and youth of Lorain County.”

Mr. Sommers joined the BBBSLC Board in 2019 as part of the Fundraising and Marketing Committee, bringing over two decades of sales and marketing leadership garnered through various roles with Shurtape. In July 2020, he took over as Chair of the Fundraising and Marketing Committee, and then extended his service as Vice Chair of the Board in July 2021. Mr. Sommers was named by the Board to his new role as Chair, effective July 1, 2022.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity to continue to serve the organization in this new capacity,” says Mr. Sommers. “My intention is to best leverage my skills, passion and network to help the team accomplish our goals in serving these deserving children in Lorain County. We expect to continue to expand the reach of the organization to help even more children and increase the diversity of our Board. I look forward to supporting the organization – and to making a positive, lasting impact.”
